Activities of the Corporation

         Karnataka Sheep and Wool Development Corporation, Bangalore was established in the year 2001 for the welfare of the sheep farmers in the state. Totally 580 Sheep and wool producers co-operative societies have been registered under this corporation. Five sheep breeding centres are  functioning under the corporation (Dhangur, Khudhapur, Guttal,Suttatti and Anagawadi) Sheep and Goat breeding  is undertaken in these farms. Bandur sheep in Dhnagur, Deccani and Bellary sheep in Kudhapura, Kenguri Sheep in  Guttal and Osmanabadi goat in Anagavadi.  Deccani Sheep (Yalaga) in  Suttatti Farm are breed and the quality rams  and bucks are distributed to the sheep and goat farmers to upgrade their sheep and goats. Sheep and goat breeding policy is being implemented by the State Government for the development of sheep and goats.

           Rs.110.00 lakhs has  been released for establishment of Bellary Sheep breeding farm at Kurikuppe, Bellary District , for rearing  and conserving Bellary  Sheep  Breed and supply of pure breed Bellary Rams to farmers at a subsidized rate for  improving the breed.  Work is in progress to establish  well equipped training Centre for shepherds at Kurikuppe.

            

                      For emergency treatment multiutility ambulatory clinics vehicles introduced for sheep and goat. Vehicles are provided to Bidar, Kalburagi, Yadgiri, Raichur, Bellary, Bijapur, Bagalkot, Belgaum, Gadag, Haveri, Davanagere, Chitradurga, Tumkur, Hassan, Mysore, Mandya, Kolar,Chikkaballapura, Koppal, Dharwad, Shivmogga, Bangalore Rural, Bangalore Urban, Chickmagalur, Chamarajanagar, Ramnagar Districts total 26  districts. Sheep farmers are provided with information by organizing  one day training programme on scientific rearing of Sheep and Goat.
